CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 118)
One: O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever!
Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD.
All: I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.
One: The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
All: The LORD is God, and he has given us light.
One: Bind the festal procession with branches, up to the horns of the altar.
All: You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will extol you.
One: O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,
All: for his steadfast love endures forever.

CALL TO CONFESSION
Nothing can be hidden from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth,
whose wisdom is endless, whose mercy is great. Trusting in God’s grace, let us confess our sin.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we are shown through your Word that even the disciples of Jesus could be very misguided and self-centered. They even fought over who was the “greatest” among them - and they disputed this while in the presence of Jesus Christ, who was about to lay down his life in the greatest act of humility of all time. Forgive us when we forget that we are always in your presence. Forgive us when we puff ourselves up with pride even though we are called to be humble servants in this world. As we enter into Holy Week, teach us that nothing done in your service could ever be beneath us - and that we are in no way greater than those whom we are called to serve. Grant us humility and soften our hearts that we might yearn to be more like your Son, each and every day. Amen.
One: Now that we have confessed as a body, let us take the truths that have troubled our hearts to God silently. Let us not be worried about the awkwardness of silence, as we take some time to focus on speaking with our God.

PASSING OF THE PEACE
One: Since God has forgiven us in Christ,
let us forgive one another.
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
All: And also with you.
One: Let us share signs of peace with one another.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed
I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

CALL FOR THE OFFERING
The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it. Let us return to God the offerings of our life
and the gifts of the earth.

PRAYER OF DEDICATION (UNISON)
Holy God, sovereign over all things, we can never thank you enough for the gift of your Son, who lowered himself to a humiliating death for our sakes. This Holy Week, may we use our time, talents and tithes not just to help those in need, but to do so with the hearts of servants. May these gifts be used to spread the light of salvation to all who will receive it and may our loud Hosannas be heard far and wide. Amen.
