Nursery ("Wee Kids")
We offer nursery care during service (10 am- 11 am) in the Education building located next to the church for children birth through age 5.
Young People (K-12th grade)
Our church school has two main classes that meet weekly (K-5th- and 6th-12th) on Sunday mornings 10:20-11:15. Students are excused during service and attend church school in the Education Building located next to the church.
Our main curriculum for K-5 is Growing in Grace and Gratitude which is written for and published by the Presbyterian Church ,USA. Each lesson offers multiple activites that are geared to appeal to a wide variety of kids and learning styles. We start the lesson preparing our "story space" and after our story, we go to our activity room and learn through activities, games and/or crafts. We've also done baking and lessons with making food- always a big hit! With this curriculum there is also an interactive e-book app that is freely available for families to use at home to connect with lessons.
Our main curriculum for 6-12 is "Presby Youth" (written and published by PCUSA). For the Fall, our main focus will be learning about Christ's Kingdom and in particular looking at the Beatitudes. Students will learn in multiple ways, including hands-on projects, games, looking at short online videos, and using technology to express their learnings.
Sundays which are followed by a school holiday Monday, we have no formal church school classes. Instead we have a more informal time for our K-5th graders with games, crafts, and activites centered around a particular Biblical theme. 6th through 12th grade students are encouraged to either be active helpers or to stay and participate in the church service.
Safety is very important to us, so we would ask that when you bring your child to attend our church school classes that you please fill out a short registration form with emergency contact information and allergies and so on. Please contact myself (information listed below) or the church office if you wish to obtain a form. Otherwise they are available on Sundays.
Connections with Worship
We look for ways to connect young people with worship: with lighting candles for service, reading Scripture during service, singing, sharing musical talents, or presenting what they are learning about in classes. This also involves a specially coordinated Youth Services. This year our youth will be involved in helping to plan and leading a service in June. There will be opportunities for our young people to use their gifts and music will be an important part of this. We also use technology in the services that we plan, to make visual connections for learners. Our older youth in particular have created Power Point slides to go along with Scripture readings. We make use of the technology that they are familiar with.
Our church school year culminates with Christian Growth Sunday. Usually the second Sunday in June, we recognize the participation of our youth, recognize our volunteer leaders, and celebrate the continual growth in faith of our Education program.
We welcome children to participate in any of our programs at any time!
Opportunities Outside of Sunday
We offer various opportunities for fellowship, community, service, and learning outside of our regular Sunday program. These opportunities include events aimed at young children and families, events aimed at youth and adults for mission opportunities (fundraising events for service organizations such as the Food Bank, and relief efforts), as well as intergenerational events which seek to provide community and growth opportunities for people of all ages. Additionally we offer opportunities for adult fellowship and spiritual growth.
