PRAYER OF APPROACH

PRELUDE

CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 8)

One: O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

All:  You have set your glory above the heavens.

One: When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established;

All:   what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?

One: Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.

All: You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;

One: you have put all things under their feet.

All: O LORD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Hymn # 162 “O Lord, Our God, How Excellent”

CALL TO CONFESSION

Nothing can be hidden from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth,
whose wisdom is endless, whose mercy is great. Trusting in God’s grace, let us confess our sin.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Heavenly Father, Wisdom tells us that you created her at the beginning of your work, the first of your acts long ago. She was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth.  Help us to remember the importance of your wisdom,  Help us to understand that your wisdom is much more than knowledge and that the fear of you is the beginning of wisdom.  We know that the wise are patient and merciful; discerning and faithful.  Forgive us when we do not seek your wisdom. Forgive us when we seek to act without the guidance of your Holy Spirit. Show us that seeking righteousness through your Son, Jesus Christ is the wisest thing we could ever do.  Amen.

One: Now that we have confessed as a body, let us take the truths that have troubled our hearts to God silently.  Let us not be worried about the awkwardness of silence, as we take some time to focus on speaking with our God.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

One: Since God has forgiven us in Christ,
let us forgive one another.
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
All: And also with you.

One: Let us share signs of peace with one another.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH    The Apostles’ Creed

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
