CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalms 42 & 43)
One: As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.
All: My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
One: Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?
All: Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
One: Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!
All: Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.
One: Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?
All: Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.
Hymn # 35 “Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty”
CALL TO CONFESSION
Nothing can be hidden from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth,
whose wisdom is endless, whose mercy is great. Trusting in God’s grace, let us confess our sin.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, your creation reveals to us your presence in magnificent ways. Forgive us when we stand in awe of a great storm or of a raging fire and fail to stand in awe of you! Forgive us when we do not take the time to listen for your still small voice when it comes to us in the midst of life’s turbulent seas. Remind us that even the demons recognize your awesome authority and that of your Son. Teach us to live as those who recognize that your Word is given to us as a covenant of love. Forgive us when we ignore your Holy Word. Create in us a desire to be guided by your Holy Spirit. We thank you for your everlasting love, your patience with us and your undeserved mercy upon us. Amen.
One: Now that we have confessed as a body, let us take the truths that have troubled our hearts to God silently. Let us not be worried about the awkwardness of silence, as we take some time to focus on speaking with our God.

let us forgive one another.
The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed
I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

Gracious God, your gifts to us are so great that we cannot fully comprehend their value. Teach us to understand your purpose each day — through sorrow and through joy!
